Book review on Romeo and Juliet.
The title          : Romeo and Juliet
Author                        : William Shakespeare
Theme            : Romance Story
Fiction or non-fiction: Fiction
The setting of the story:
Verona: City in Italy where the play takes place. The Capulets and the Montagues reside here. Escalus is the prince of Verona.
Capulet orchard: After the feast at the Capulet estate, Romeo runs here to hide from Benvolio and Mercutio, who make fun of his misery over Rosaline.
This orchard is where Romeo and Juliet first proclaim their love for each other. He is in the orchard while she is on her balcony above him.
Mantua: City in Italy where Romeo flees after saying his last goodbye to Juliet. He hides here, and waits to hear from the friar. It is here that he learns that Juliet is supposedly dead. Then, on his way to go and see her, he buys poison from an apothecary on the street.

The characters and characteristic:
  1. Romeo: Romeo is a Montague. He grieves for the love of Rosaline, but falls in love with Juliet, Capulet's daughter, at the Capulet feast. Romeo is quick to love and acts impulsively by killing himself by drinking poison when he thinks Juliet is dead.
  2. Juliet: Juliet is a Capulet. She falls in love with Romeo and is willing to do anything to be with him, even though her family is in a feud with his family. She feigns death so she does not have to marry Paris, but only to awaken to find Romeo actually dead right next to her. She takes his sword and kills herself because she does not want to live without her Romeo.
  3. Friar Laurence: Romeo's friend and confidant. He agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet in hopes that their marriage will end the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. He also watches out for Romeo. For instance, after Romeo kills Tybalt, Friar Laurence tells him to go to Mantua, where he will be safe. At the end of the play, he blames himself for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, but the Prince frees him of any fault, because his intentions were honest and noble.
A brief summary of the story:
A long time ago there was a boy and girl who fell in love with each other but, their families were enemies. Because of this very hard situation, they first exchanged vows on a balcony. They even met secretly and frequently and decided to marry. Everyday their love becomes deeper and deeper. But their secret was revealed so, Friar Lawrence advised them to wait for their families to be united. The situation of the lovers becomes more difficult because of the deaths occurring between the feuding families. But, they were really wild with passion. Love cannot be beaten. Man was made for companionship. So, Friar Lawrence, knowing of the young lovers, arranged a cooling off period. However, on the way to the cooling off place, Rome got into trouble and an unexpected death occurred. Romeo killed Juliet’s cousin and shortly everyone knew about it. Taking revenge, Juliet’s fathers expelled Romeo and rearranged the wedding of the young lady with another man. Reluctant to get married to someone against her wishes, Juliet took a sleeping potion that rendered her death like. When Romeo knew what happened, he thought that Juliet was really dead, he drank some poison and died next to her. Juliet awakened after and found Romeo dead, she stabbed herself. After the tragic story of the two young lovers the warring families realized their mistakes and sought to patch things up.
The event you like to highlights    :
I thoroughly enjoyed the event when Juliet felt reluctant to get married someone against her wishes because William Shakespeare has captured all the conflict in forbidden love, fear, romance and exciting in love. I found myself reliving some of dreams of true-love story.
The values    :
Shakespeare’s main characters give the reader an idea of how the two young lovers proved that they are really going to love each other till death makes them apart. Thought everybody is against of their relationship, they did not stop loving each other thought they were banished by their families. On other hand, Shakespeare explores human nature in deeper love.
Other features of the book :
1.    The illustration         : The book cover illustration is just nice.
2.    The language           : Well-mannered story.
3.     Word size                 : Suitable font used.
Recommendation    : This genre is very suitable for teenagers and adults. The undying love-story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, this is one of his greatest works during his times which is still being studied in schools. In this story, the two young lovers proved that they are really going to love each other till death makes them apart. Though everybody is against of their relationship, they did not stop loving each other though Romeo was banished by Juliet’s father.
In personal opinion, I can say that their families waited the lives of the two young lovers' lives because they let many lives to be wasted before finding the appropriate solution for the problems of both parties.

 REFLECTION
This task has helped me overcome my fear of English especially in literature. I was unsure of myself at first, but my lecture Pn. Tengku Fauziah quickly became guide me on how to write a book review then finally come out with the book report.
I have chosen Romeo and Juliet the best known books written by William Shakespeare. I had never read this book before because I am not interested in literature. I have to surf the internet to get some research. The search engines on the Internet are faster than looking things up manually. The search engines even let the researcher search for articles containing key words that are related to the subject being researched. I have noticed that not all search engines are created equal. Yahoo and Lycos are my favorites.
From taking this task, I have learned the literature parts such as theme, characters and also the plot of the story. I learn best from reading the material and doing the book review. If I am unsure on the review, I will make some research from the internet and find other sources like books and journals and also showing my draft to my lecturer. I am happy by doing this task because it is my first experienced doing book report.
This task has helped me to know my English profiency. It has taught me skills in doing book review and book report from the book that I have read. I will know how to identify the theme, characters, plot, setting of the story and also the values from the storyline. I have enjoyed this task because it opened my eyes to who I really am as a person. I have learned everything in book review and book report. I have become more confident and goal-oriented especially after I presenting my book report in front of my class.
